JUNE 2026.
Kikuyu is a South African grass that loves high temperatures and handles extremely heavy traffic, making it the perfect grass for the likes of rugby fields. Being familiar with Kikuyu, I was initially surprised to see how quickly my boy’s outdoor games turn our Guernsey cottage's lawn into a mud patch. Kikuyu has it’s uses, but it can also be frustrating to deal with when it gets out of control — and Kikuyu can get out of control rather quickly because it grows so vigorously and has a stubborn root system. Our God-given strengths (whatever they may be), are somewhat like Kikuyu — a blessing when nurtured in the right ways, but disastrous when they get out of control or become polluted by pride. Every strength that God has given us has a purpose, but we only end up using these for good when we humbly submit ourselves to Him who created us and designed our strengths. James 4:6 reminds us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, and the next verse adds that we’re called to submit ourselves to Him. I don’t know about you, but I want to be someone who is humbly available to be used by God, for His glory. That’s why we were created and there’s no greater joy than walking according to God’s purposes. What strengths has God given you, and how can you use these strengths for His glory this June?
