JANUARY 2026.
We all long for significance in one sense or another, and the New Year presents us with an opportunity to reflect on the significance of the year gone by. So was 2025 flavoured by significant moments and tangible achievements, or did it leave you feeling deflated and insignificant? If the former, I extend my congratulations to you. God calls us to shine like stars in a crooked generation, not only by exemplifying Christian character but also by exemplifying excellence in general (Philippians 2:15; Colossians 3:23-24). On the other hand, if you’re feeling a sense of insignificance as we enter 2026, I’d like to encourage you with a reminder that our Lord was born into seemingly insignificant circumstances and yet went on to achieve the most significant thing in all of human history. This same Lord often calls seemingly insignificant people to demonstrate that true significance isn’t a product of our own strength. Just think of the many insignificant men and women in the Bible who were used by God in significant ways! Passages like 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 and 2 Corinthians 12:9 make the same point. The bottom line is that whether or not we feel significant, true significance is found in Christ alone. Every other kind of significance pales in comparison. So no matter what may pass in 2026, let’s find our true significance in Him.
