DECEMBER 2023.
“From the squalor of a borrowed stable, came the Saviour of the human race.” These words, penned by songwriter Stuart Townend, do well to sum up the heart of Christmas. Beyond Christmas to-do lists and anticipated festivities this year, are we ready to celebrate the greatest gift the world has ever known? Beyond the hopelessness and strife of our day, are we ready for the true message of Christmas to move us to wonder and worship?
Christmas is the celebration of King Jesus who had known the full riches of Heaven for eternity past, yet who was born in the humblest of places and “for a little while was made lower than the angels” in order to lift His people up for eternity future (Hebrews 2:9). How marvellous! How wonderful! This Christmas, and forevermore, may this be our song.
2 Corinthians 8:9 puts it like this: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” The Gospel really is the most remarkable story imaginable. Don’t let this Christmas season pass by without taking the time to be deeply moved by the true meaning of Christmas.
