NOVEMBER 2024.
FIREWORKS (John 8:12).

This month the sky will light up with fireworks. Although these colourful bursts of energy will only lasts for a moment, they’re likely to make a lasting impression. As a boy, my father often traveled abroad and sometimes took the family along. On one occasion, we found ourselves in Switzerland on Swiss national day. It was also my sister’s birthday and we sat late into the night watching the most unforgettable fireworks display I have ever seen. The Book of Job is about a man who faced difficulties and yet remained tenaciously faithful to God in every season. To this day, his life still shines brightly in Scripture because the source of his brightness wasn’t rooted in circumstances. The last line of Job tells us that he died an old man and full of days. As we think about the numbered days that lie ahead in our lives, what would we want the final line to say if our stories were to be described in a book? I would want mine to say that I shone brightly by reflecting the light of Christ. Fireworks last only a moment, but they can make a lasting impression as they light up the dark sky. Our lives are momentary too, but we can make a lasting impression in the world if we reflect the light of Christ that is far more brilliant than any fireworks display could ever be.

One in Christ
