JANARY 2024.
The year behind us has been one to remember as far as global discord is concerned. Sadly, much of the conflict that escalated in 2023 will continue into 2024. Besides the wars that continue to rage, 2024 will probably be a year of political unrest as some of the most influential nations on earth engage in major elections. Closer to home, some folk in our fellowship are awaiting medical procedures or anticipating other difficulties in the coming days. Therefore, many of us have reason to feel uncertain about 2024. And yet, as always, we can rest in the constancy of our great God.
Psalm 90 is one of the Bible passages that reminds us of God’s constancy. God has been our refuge in 2023 and He will continue to be our refuge in 2024. Going much further back than 2023 and much further forward than 2024, verse 2 says, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Although our lives on this earth are short, as the Psalm goes on to consider, God is steadfast. Therefore, we can trust Him to be our source of hope and joy even in times of trouble.
Whatever the coming year turns out to be like, the last verse of Psalm 90 provides an excellent prayer for us to adopt as we enter 2024: “Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!” As the people of NLC, let’s trust the constancy of our loving Heavenly Father, and let’s endeavour to live for His glory in every moment of 2024.
